Experience

Robert J. “Bob” Bloxom retired in 2014 as Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for Hampton Roads Bankshares and its affiliates. With 28 years banking experience with a focus on commercial and retail lending, credit administration and risk management, Bob built a team and created a management and operational infrastructure that helped that bank navigate through a tumultuous time in the banking industry.  The processes, procedures, reporting and governance that Bob helped put into place have been held up as examples by banking examiners and industry peers. Prior to being named Chief Risk Officer by the company in 2010, Bob held the position of Chief Credit Officer.

Background

Bob started his banking career in 1986 with Signet Bank (formerly Bank of Virginia) and after graduating from a two year management training program, held several positions in cash management, commercial credit administration and commercial lending.  In 1994 Bob became the chief credit officer of Farmers & Merchants Bank-Eastern Shore, an affiliate of Mercantile Bankshares Corporation.  He left in 2006 to become the chief credit officer of Shore Bank, one of the affiliates of Hampton Roads Bankshares.

Community Service

Mr. Bloxom is the current chairman of the Eastern Shore Community Services Board and a member of the Town Council of Onancock, Virginia.  He is also a long-time member of the board of the YMCA of South Hampton Roads and a member of the board of the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.  Bob has been actively involved in his community his entire career.  He is a past  chairman of the Eastern Shore Family YMCA, former board member of the YMCA Camp Silver Beach, past president of the Melfa Rotary Club and over the years has held board positions with the United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, the Eastern Shore Historical Society and the former Hospice of the Eastern Shore.
